On a return flight from a co-creative event in Tulum, Mexico, Mike had a spark of inspiration from Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg’s powerful actions to save our planet and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s push for a national Green New Deal.
Leveraging his experience in building civic and business communities in New York and around the world, Mike started Green Earth to connect people curious about the environmental movement with opportunities for volunteerism and activism through memorable and engaging live events.
This past January, on a flight returning from a small city pained by tourism's increasingly negative environmental impacts, inspired by the energy of AOC, and moved to action by the words of Greta Thunberg, I decided that I had to take action.
I moved to San Francisco in 2017 and want to make deeper connections with my new community under a banner that I'm passionate about.
We organize events that introduce people new to the movement with those who are more experienced so that we can forge new relationships, coalitions, and partnerships among those who want to make a difference for the environment.
We hold events and gatherings that bring together San Franciscans from all walks of life to help people take local action toward solving our environmental crisis in socially just and equitable ways.
And a statement about Green Earth specifically:
Everyone deserves access to environmental activism in a way that speaks to them, inspires them, and energizes them. As an activist new to San Francisco, I believe we can get together at in-person events to share ideas and projects while socializing in memorable ways. Without organizations like Green Earth, we can miss opportunities to connect with and support each other personally, which is especially important in times of crisis and overwhelm. Together, we can learn from each other, support each other and welcome new voices into the environmental movement.
